On Tuesday, the Jharkhand High Court addressed a petition filed by Sushila Murmu, the wife of Surya Hansda. Sushila is seeking an independent investigation into the alleged fake encounter that led to her husband's death.
Sushila, along with her mother-in-law Neelamani Murmu, claims that on August 11, police executed a planned fake encounter resulting in the death of Surya Hansda in Deoghar.
The next hearing for this case is scheduled to take place after the Dussehra holidays. Surya Hansda had previously contested in several assembly elections and had multiple criminal cases registered against him.
Hansda was apprehended on August 10 in the village of Nawadih, Deoghar. He was being taken towards the Rahadbadia hills for the recovery of concealed weapons when he reportedly died in the alleged encounter.
According to police reports, during the transit, Hansda allegedly seized a police officer's weapon and fired while attempting to escape. In response, the police acted, resulting in his death. Meanwhile, the opposition party BJP has been protesting on the streets for several days, demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the death of the tribal leader.
